Our History

Our History

The King’s Assembly had its beginnings in 1909 in Harlem, New York. Through the evangelistic work of Susan G. Lightford, who initially held services on the streets of Harlem, a small group formed and began to meet regularly to worship God. In 1919 the organization was formally incorporated as The King’s Chapel Assembly of the Apostolic Faith.

Although Susan Lightford died in 1949, she planted the seeds for God’s great work in New York City.

Several other pastors came and left over the years; however, in 1964 Thomas Streitferdt became the Pastor and Teacher of the congregation. Utilizing his gifts from God, Pastor Streitferdt explained more fully the Gospel of the Lord Jesus: salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Additionally, Pastor Streitferdt spearheaded the effort to build a new edifice dedicated for worshipping and teaching about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At the time some called it folly yet God stood with His people, and we erected a brand new building on the corner of 127th Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan.

In 1980 we opened the King’s Academy, a school for our children and those of the community. It is a teaching arm of the church that provides a secular education along with the teachings about the Lord Jesus from the pre-school level through high school. Our children began graduating from high school in 1989. They continue to serve God and work as professionals in the medical, accounting, legal, and financial industries amongst others.

Today the church building adjoined to the school building extends from the corner of 127th Street to the corner of 128th Street.
In September 2017 after 53 years of pastoring, Thomas Streitferdt, Sr. was called home by God, soon followed by his son, Thomas Streitferdt, Jr. in November 2017. Anointed to be the next shepherd of God's true people, Pastor Thomas Streitferdt, III began his ministry of Love, and The Good Word, and is still the Pastor and Teacher of the congregation. God has done great things for us whereof we are glad!

Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

We are firm believers in Jesus Christ as our God and Savior. Salvation is obtained only through belief in Jesus Christ, not through one’s behavior. (Romans 5:1, 6-11) Moreover, the Lord Jesus purchased our salvation with His blood which has cleansed us from sin for our entire lifetime. The work has been completed as indicated by Jesus who is sitting at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 10:12)

Furthermore, we are convicted that there is only ONE God – not a trinity – and His name is Jesus Christ. We are baptized by immersion in water in the name of Jesus who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe the Holy Spirit is a gift of God who dwells within all of His true believers. His purpose is to be a comforter as well as lead and guide us into all truth. (John 14:16 -17, 26)

We believe that everyone who has ever lived will stand before God and give an account of their lives to Him. (Revelation 20:11 -12)

We believe that we must be born again to enter into the Kingdom of God. When we are born again, we will have a body like unto Jesus’ resurrected body and be able to move like the wind. (John 3:3 – 8) In this new body, we will reign as kings and priests under God’s authority over His new heaven and new earth. (Revelation 1:4 -6; 21:1)

Finally, we believe that Jesus Christ is God’s spokesman to us. (Hebrews 1:1 – 3) Jesus’ words show us the way to salvation. Jesus’ words are truth. Jesus’ words give us eternal life.

Our Pastor Teacher

Thomas Streitferdt, Pastor

In 1948 at the age of 19, Pastor Streitferdt was called by God to His service just as he was to begin attending Bowling Green University to study for a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In obedience to God’s Call and instructions, he was baptized in Jesus name.

His life now irrevocably changed, he set aside his aspirations of becoming an engineer to pursue an education in Theology. In the summer of 1950, Thomas Streitferdt completed a Bachelor of theology degree at Aenon Bible School in Ohio. He completed the program a year early making him Aenon’s youngest graduate.

He then became active in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (P.A.of W) community for many years in various capacities: Director, Bishop, and Editor of the Christian Outlook magazine. As he came to the understanding that salvation is only achieved through Jesus Christ and not through one’s behavior, he gave up his titles and resigned from the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

The True Church of God is an independent body of believers, convicted that salvation is attained solely by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Pastor Streitferdt’s calling and gift from God has separated him from the man-made tenets and traditions that some hold on to as critical to salvation. His ministry is primarily teaching till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God. (Ephesians 4:11 – 16) He ministers to body, soul and spirit in dealing with the burning issues of how to make peace with God, what is the purpose of this life, and what occurs after death.

He is a gifted servant of God to those that love truth.

The Origins of Easter

Every spring the earth begins to rejuvenate itself. Flowers sprout, birds sing, and children welcome the Easter bunny. Easter is a day on which many Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But does Easter really have anything to do with Jesus? Just where did traditions like the Easter bunny, colored eggs, hot cross buns, and sun rise services really come from? Certainly not from the holy bible!! How does “hopping around” and “laying eggs” lead to salvation?....

Unwrapping Christmas

When you think of Christmas, many images probably come, to mind; images of carol singers and holly-decked churches where people sing time-honored songs about the birth of Jesus Christ; of warm fireplaces and homes with bright colored lights; of feasting and revelry; of exchanging gifts and greetings; of old saint Nicholas, and lastly of superstitious customs from long ago.

There’s a new world coming! A new world government is about to emerge on this earth. Sounds incredible to you? It is not at all incredible. Throughout the history of this earth, there have been repeated attempts to establish an eternal world power. Alexander the Great endeavored to accomplish the task with the Grecian empire about 330 B.C. Augustus Caesar in 30 B.C. set out to conquer the entire known world, and he did. Caesar became the first emperor of Rome, and established a republic so large that it was said that all roads lead to Rome.

Pearls of Wisdom

Pearls of Wisdom

Things Conducive for Good Health

  1. Everyone needs to have a sense of belonging to something or somebody (i.e. God, family, etc.). One is fulfilled through Christ, the Holy Spirit, and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
  2. We need to have a sense that Someone is watching over us to protect and shield us. God and His angels are our protection. We are not alone!
  3. How do I feel about missing the mark? Do I feel guilt, sorrow or remorse? Missing the mark gives one more chance. We have more arrows in our quiver, and our bow is still strong. If you love Jesus, you will keep His commandments which will bring peace as your soul prospers. This is not a traditional holiness church; however, this is a holiness church in the sense that we have the holiness of Christ.
  4. Take care of yourself. We need a better sense of self. Love yourself.
  5. Teach yourself as you are taught. Review what you have been taught. Read, read, read – expand yourself. Develop your brainpower, and your skills. Make the teachings of Jesus and other subject matter a part of yourself.
  6. Salvation is platinum, good health is gold, and the key to both is in your hands. Salvation is in Jesus. Good health is in getting proper rest, proper eating, regular exercise, etc.

• The Best doctor for you is yourself.
• The Best medicine for you is God and time.
• The Best state of mind for you is PEACE in God.
• The Best exercise for you is walking while you meditate on the things of God.

God’s Soup for the Soul
1 portion of God’s love
2 portions of Kindness
3 portions of Fairness
4 portions of Tolerance

Put in sensitivity to others. Add honesty, self-sacrifice (agape) for others, and NO REGRETS. Do not look back. Put these eight elements into the pot of open-mindedness; shake into it more fairness, thoughtfulness, and hopefulness.
